What chemotherapy is
Chemotherapy uses medicines that stop cancer cells from growing and dividing. It is given in cycles — a treatment period followed by a rest period that lets the body recover — and the drugs, doses and schedule (the protocol) are chosen for your specific cancer type and stage.
How day-care chemotherapy works at Shichim
You arrive at the centre at your appointed time. A nurse checks your vitals and blood reports, the pharmacist prepares your drugs under a laminar-flow hood, and the infusion runs in a reclining chair in our day-care suite with an attendant beside you. Most sessions take two to six hours. You are observed after the infusion and go home the same evening with written instructions and a 24/7 number to call.
Managing side effects
Anti-nausea medicines are given before and after each cycle, and we prescribe supportive medicines for mouth care, appetite and blood counts. Our dietitian and counsellor are part of the day-care team, not an add-on.
